Short Course | 24 hours | 2.4 CEUs | $2,795

An introduction to the program of study, providing the student with an overview of Contract Management philosophies, principles, processes and terminology. Particular attention will be paid to the phases of Contract Management: acquisition strategy, pre-award, contract award, post-award and contract closeout.

Course Outline

  • General Overview
    • Become familiar with the different steps of the contracting process for both buyers and sellers.
    • Become familiar with the different similarities and differences between project and contract managers.
    • Review the Uniform Contract Format.
    • Familiarize yourself with the Federal Acquisition Regulation and its role in government contracting.
  • Building trust, managing expectations, and honoring commitments
    • Define basic contract terms and use them effectively.
    • List and define the five elements required to forma a contract: offer, acceptance, consideration, competent parties, and legality of purpose.
    • Identify similarities and difference between public, commercial and international contract processes.
    • Understand the parts of a solicitation and contract, to include the statement of work, schedule, inspection and acceptance, and contract clauses.
  • Procurement and Contracting Methods
    • To define basic contract terms and use them effectively.
    • To display a working knowledge of how to use and interpret reference sources, such as the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), Uniform Commercial Code (UCC), etc.
    • To list and define the five elements required to form a contract: offer, acceptance, consideration, competent parties, and legality of purpose.
    • To understand the parts of a solicitation and contract, to include the statement of work, schedule, inspection, acceptance and contract clauses.
  • Contract pricing arrangements and the award phase of a contract
    • To define basic contract terms and use them effectively.
    • To list and define the five elements required for form a contract.

    • To explain the uses of cost and pricing information.
  • Post-award phase of a contract and the global CM - misconceptions and best practices
    • To define the basic contract terms and use them effectively.
    • To illustrate the contract process from identification of need to contract completion and closeout.
