Overview

This certificate addresses topics related to Linux systems, whether used for data processing, software development, or system administration. Because of its significant cost savings, a growing number of companies are choosing to adopt Linux as an alternative to other operating systems. This series includes the core concepts of Linux, and then builds on the foundations with Linux System Administration. Students who complete this program will be equipped to set up and administer Linux on a network, host websites, as well as configure a network of Linux computers and peripheral devices. It is suggested that you complete the classes in the order listed below. 

Linux Fundamentals

This course that focuses on the fundamental tools and concepts of Linux and Unix. Students gain proficiency using the command line. Beginners develop a solid foundation in Unix, while advanced users discover patterns and fill in gaps in their knowledge. The course material is designed to provide extensive hands-on experience. Topics include: basic file manipulation; basic and advanced filesystem features; I/O redirection and pipes; text manipulation and regular expressions; managing jobs and processes; vi, the standard Unix editor; automating tasks with shell scripts; managing software; secure remote administration; and more.

Enterprise Linux System Administration

This course is an in-depth course that explores installation, configuration and maintenance of Linux systems. The course focuses on issues universal to every workstation and server. The course material is designed to provide extensive hands-on experience. Topics include: installation and configuration; the boot process; user and group administration; filesystem administration, including quotas, FACLs, RAID and LVM; task automation; client networking; SELinux; software management; log files; troubleshooting; and more.
